1. Explain the “camera obscura” effect. How is it achieved?
In c. 500 B.C.E, Chinese and Greek philosophers discovered the "camera obscure" effect. They found that when light is focused through a tiny hole in a wall, the scene is projects on another close by surface, upside down.

2. What invention during the 17th Century helped man get a step closer to creating the modern camera?
Once Isaac newton and Christian Huygens perfected optics, they were able to make extremely high-quality lenses.

3. What were the parts of the first modern camera invented by Niepce?
Niepce created the film camera. To body of the camera was a box, it also had a glass lens, and film.

4. What do modern digital cameras have in common with Niepce’s camera?
Light passes through the lens into the camera and exposes the film

5. What do digital cameras use to capture an image?
Digital cameras use an electronic sensor called a CCD.

6. What is the difference between the Auto Mode and the Program mode?
In program mode, you can control the flash and a few other settings. In Auto mode, the camera will control everything.

7.  What is the Portrait mode used for? How does it work?
Use portrait mode when shooting with a person. The camera will use the quickest lens speed to blur out the background.

8. What is the Sports mode used for? (not just sports) How does it work?
Sports mode uses the fastest shutter speed in an attempt to freeze motion.

9. What does the photographer have to do in Manual Mode?
In Manual Mode, the photographer must control the shutter and aperture.

10. Why should you do a half press on the trigger button?
When the trigger button is half pressed, it locks focus on the object in the centre of the image.

11. What does this symbol mean?
 When would you use this?
The symbol means that flash is not on.

12.What does this symbol mean?When would you use this?
This symbol means the camera will use flash when it thinks extra light is needed.

13. What happens to your photo if there is too much light?
If there is too much light in an image, it appears washed out.

14. What happens to your photo if there is not enough light?
The image will appear too dark if not enough light is present.

15. What is a “stop.”
A stop is a relative measure of light, and how much it changes.

16. How many stops brighter is the new planet if there are two suns instead of one?
The planet would be one stop brighter if there were two suns instead of one.

17. How many stops brighter is the new planet if there are four suns instead of two?
The planet would be two stops brighter is there were four suns instead of two.

18. What affect does a longer shutter speed of have?
More light will be in the image if the shutter speed is longer.

19. What affect does a shorter shutter speed have?
The shorter the shutter speed, the less light will be present.

20. What does the aperture control?
Aperature controls the amount of light in  an image

21. When adjusting the aperture, how can you increase the amount of light?
zoo increase the amount of light in an image, decrease the F stop.
Larger openings= more light
Smaller openings= less light

why is this part of a winning sports portfolio assignment? This picture displays the light-hearted relationship between the coach and his players. It's also almost like a behind the scenes photo, and it's interesting to see serious athletes with their guard down. Also, the photo is framed well and captured at the perfect moment. What is the shutter speed? The shutter speed is high, at maybe around 1/1600 or so. Is this a key moment? Could it have been planned? This photo could have been planned beforehand. What advances/techniques are present in this photo? The photo is well balanced and the people form a nice line. The rule of thirds is used, and there's good contrast between the subject and the background.
