“Joy, escape, and meditation” replied my stepfather, Kevin Boykin, when asked what his car meant to him. Although commonly seen as merely a metal box with wheels, Boykin has developed a connection to his Tahoe and the objects inside it.
After opening the front door, one immediately notices a baseball glove and a baseball cap lounging on the passenger seat. According to Boykin, the baseball glove is there because he was “playing catch with his son,” and the cap is there due to his need to conceal his “crazy hair.” He considers these objects important because they “remind him of family.” This demonstrates one of the many positive character traits of my stepfather. The fact that Boykin has a profound care for his family and a connection with the objects associated with it shows that Boykin is a caring, benevolent man.
When observing the back seat, a chainsaw chain in its package was found. Kevin says that this object is in his car because he “like[s] things inside of things inside of other things.” Boykin likes this chainsaw chain because “it’s an endless loop,” and after an awkward pause, he adds to his answer: “it never quits, nor do I.” This demonstrated the humorous side of my stepdad. Although Kevin is a relatively soft guy, his humour sometimes contradicts his mellowness.
Just realized that I forgot the photos!
