It is important to note that  portraits should  resemble the person’s essence" instead of "how they look" (Boens, How to Take Grat Portraits). Lighting and composition play a part in determining the energy a photograph emitts. By reading this short article, I have aqcuired some useful portrait photography tips: essence over aesthetics, and shoot wherever seems natural to the subject. Favourite photograph: Dijon Bowen photographs a strong, powerful woman. The subject's windblown hair and the shallow depth of field creates a dramatic feel, and the lines in the background add visual interest. The contrast between the whites and blacks on her shirt are satisfying, and not only is the image perfectly exposed, it is wel...

Magazines Pt. II

description of the main attributes of the covers (P1), the relationship between words and photo (P2)         There are four types of magazine styles: image based, illustration based, type based and concept Based. My Favorite Cover (critique)

Readers' Choice Winner Allure “The Beauty of Diversity,” April 2017 Patrick Demarchelier, Photographer "The beauty and fashion industries have been too white for too long. The needle, in a meaningful way, had moved."         This cover of these three beautiful women was shot by Patrick Demarchelier to convey the idea that beauty comes in all shades. This is my favourite magazine cover because of the important message it delivers. In fashion, almost all models are Caucasian. People of any ethnicity other than white are not rep...
